Oman Majic

Oman is the place to visit for a truly memorable experience of a country that offers a whole array of exciting and thrilling land and sea based escapades, as well as a host of captivating, virtually unexplored scenic sites and hideaways. The winter season, especially, is perhaps one of best seasons to visit the country when temperatures and weather conditions are ideal. While some other countries suffer from the biting winter cold, in Oman the mean temperature is around the 20 degrees Celsius mark during the day with even cooler weather in the evenings and early mornings
The overall objective of this National Tourism Development Plan is to assist in the social and economic development of The Sultanate, and the detailed objective for the plan is to establish a comprehensive development vision for the tourism sector including identification of opportunities for future growth, and implementation mechanisms.
The Vision statement was “To develop tourism as an important and sustainable socio-economic sector of the Sultanate in a manner that reflects the Sultanate's historic, cultural and environmental heritage and sense of traditional hospitality and values ", and the Mission statement was " To help facilitate economic diversification, preservation of cultural integrity and environmental protection of The Sultanate ".
The figures for hotels in The Sultanate of Oman, in 2005, reached 159 hotels, 8082 rooms and 12475 beds, with an average growth rate of about 11%. There were roughly 70 Travel Agents, 32 Tour operators, 58 classified restaurants and169 fast food outlets in the same year operating in The Sultanate. There were 1.12 million tourist arrivals in 2002, about 811,000 of them were hotel residents, with an average length of stay 1.1 nights per tourist per trip, and a total expenditure of about 92 million RO.
The Markets data analyses indicated that Oman needs to capitalize on the market of GCC tourists as it represents the major tourist market visiting Oman. GCC tourists represented 64% of the total tourists in 2002.
Product/Market Fit Analysis, building on the existing tourist market statistics, revealed that an appropriate tourist product mix in The Sultanate will have a high potential of attracting increased numbers of tourists from the current and targeted tourist markets.
The dispersion of the tourism projects in all the regions of the Sultanate needs to be reevaluated in the light of the greatly needed integration of tourism products and to achieve minimum critical mass of development.
The preparation of a vision framework for the development of tourism sector within the next 5 years was based on growth scenarios for the tourism sector in Oman.
Oman as a Tourist Destination needs new types of tourism. Suggested types are Yachting Tourism, Eco-Tourism and Health and Spas Tourism.
